Duke University Emergency Status

Alert Test for Digital Signs

Due to icy conditions, Duke University, including the School of Medicine and School of Nursing, will activate the severe weather and emergency conditions policy from midnight to noon Wednesday.

Duke University Health System will operate on a normal schedule, but most Duke Health clinics will have a delayed opening. DUHS team members should refer to this site for additional information.

University employees in “essential service” roles should report to or remain at work during this time, and managers should notify staff and implement departmental severe weather plans as appropriate.

If instructors are able to provide sufficient notice to students, they may transition their morning in-person classes to an online format, but students should not be penalized if unable to attend.

Contractors and crews will be on-site Tuesday night and Wednesday morning to address any potential problem areas. Individuals coming to campus should allow for extra time for travel and use extreme caution when traveling to and around campus in case there are icy spots.

On Wednesday, all medical center permit holders will be able to access PG2 to allow crews to treat and clear parking lots. The top level of all parking garages on campus will be closed Wednesday as a safety precaution.

Bus routes will depend on weather conditions. Every effort will be made to continue the C-1 bus route, weather permitting. Duke community members should monitor Duke TransLoc for real-time updates on transit routes.

Duke community members are encouraged to stay informed by checking this site, as well as the Campus Service Updates web page for additional updates on parking lots, busing routes, dining facilities, and stores.
